Diaper handover
‘Our elderly needs to be taken care of with dignity’
This is a statement that the Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM) strongly believes in, this initiative is budgeted for and prioritised every financial year. Through the department Community Development and Planning Services (CDPS) adult diapers are supplied to elderly service centres, schools, ECD’s and other organisations who look after the severely disabled or ill.
The CWDM recognizes the value and knowledge that the elderly has to offer and respect the difficulties that those with disabilities experience.
In this financial year, 1 053 adult diapers were distributed. The District Elderly Forum Chairpersons of each municipal area in the district received the diapers for their area and is responsible for the distribution hereafter to the elderly centres according to need.
Yesterday, Drakenstein and Stellenbosch received their diapers. “I think that we have much to learn from our elderly citizens, they are our libraries and should be treated with respect and dignity. As the Executive Mayor, I am proud to be associated with CWDM who continues to contribute to give dignity back to our elderly and disabled and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, who care for the vulnerable in our community.” Mayor said addressing the recipients present at the Drakenstein handover.
Today, diapers will be delivered in the Breede Valley, Langeberg and Witzenberg areas.
